Food: Insects and honey water, although seeds from various plants found in the wild constitute their main food source.
Air moisture: 40-60%

Nest-building: Soil nests, often under stones and in sand

Particularities: This is a subspecies of Messor minor. In this species there are major- and minor workers, whose heads are red in colour. Just like all other Messor species, these feed mostly on seeds which they store in their nests, opening them as and when needed to chew them up in large chewing communities to make “ant bread”.
