Particularities: Also known as shiny black wood ant. Worker ants are shiny black in colour, with a heart-shaped head. This is the largest Lasius species in Europe. They can build long, wide lines and huge colonies. In the wild, one colony can often occupy several trees. They build cardboard nests, made from fungus and a special mass: This mass is made from various solids, such as chewed up wood, and almost 50% sugar. A young Lasius fuliginosus queen, swarming in June or July, must be placed in a readily built Lasius umbratus nest during the founding stages. This population must be devoid of any existing queens. This type of colony is depicted in the pictures displayed. This colony is a one-off offer worldwide and cannot be shipped.
