Particularities: With this species, workers ants climb onto the backs of queens and soldier ants for protection. When the colony is large enough, they lay down durable pathways. Pheidologeton is the species in which the greatest differences can be observed between worker and soldier ants. The smaller workers are only a few millimetres in size, whereas major workers can reach up to two centimetres in length. The workers are escape-specialists; a good escape-prevention system is therefore required.
