Particularities: Ants from the Odontomachus species are also known as ‘trap-jaw’ ants. They have very large mandibles which tend to be cocked at a 180º angle from one another. The ants can snap their mandibles shut with considerable speed to effectively trap prey animals. In addition, their stinger allowed them to paralyse larger prey. The colonies do not grow to particularly large sizes, but they are highly aggressive and attack anything that moves.
