Particularities: A very unusual ant species, Myrmoteras are the only formicinae with a trap-jaw. They are very skilled at hunting springtails, which constitute their near-exclusive food source. Their eyes are very large and they can spot even the tiniest movements from a long distance away. They move calmly and slowly while hunting, but are quick to flee when disturbed, usually to the underside of a leaf. They are also capable of moving backwards and sideways.
